The Lucky Wife of the Era Married a Rough Man With Space

                                     Chapter 4

In the end, her master had no choice but to start teaching her how to cook. Later, when he saw that she was truly talented, he began passing on his ancestral recipes with great care.

Xu Ying knew her master was doing his best for her, so she worked hard to learn.

The two of them—skilled in cooking and with no shortage of supplies—lived a surprisingly comfortable life during the apocalypse.

Back then, her master wasn’t just a teacher. He was like a father… and a confidant who stood by her side.

He often joked that when he was gone, she’d inherit his legacy—along with that bracelet of his.

At the time, she couldn’t understand what a bracelet had to do with cooking.

Every time she asked, her master would fall silent, sorrow clouding his expression.

“This bracelet is precious,” he once said. “You must never lose it.”

Xu Ying tried to recall what happened right before he gave her the bracelet. Then it hit her.

In the chaos of the zombie horde, her master used the last of his strength to shove her out of harm’s way. She had fallen hard to the ground, and at that moment, the blood on her bracelet vanished.

Could it be… a space?

Thinking of the possibility, Xu Ying immediately said, “I want to go in.”

As soon as the words left her lips, she vanished—straight into the space.

Inside, everything was neatly arranged: white flour, rice, vegetables, meats, eggs, seafood, snacks, beverages, pots and pans, toiletries—even cooked food. Self-heating hotpots, snail noodles, everything imaginable.

There were also towels, fabrics, paper products—every essential item they’d risked their lives to gather.

Before they ever had the chance to enjoy it all together… her master was gone.

Now, she had returned to an era where supplies were scarce. Ration tickets were needed to buy even the basics. Even with money, nothing was guaranteed.

But now, with this space, she had no reason to fear.

Still, one thing made her heart ache—the bracelet. It wasn’t just a bracelet.[Read More Here] It was the last bit of affection her master had left her.

As she stood there, a wave of sadness washing over her, a strange mist began to fill the space.

She reached out to touch it—only to be bounced back by some unseen force.

Panic swelled in her chest. Why couldn’t she take anything out? What did this mean?

Before she could dwell on it further, footsteps approached her door.

Xu Ying quickly exited the space and closed her eyes.

A warm, familiar voice called out. Mother Xu pushed open the door, smiling. “Yingying, your sister-in-law made egg custard for you. Hurry and eat while it’s warm.”

Xu Ying sat up quickly, smiling. “Thank you, Mom.”

Mother Xu rolled her eyes affectionately. “So polite with your own mother!”

Xu Ying grinned and took the bowl of custard. Her face was pale from illness, and her mother’s eyes filled with worry as she said gently, “Eat up. I’ll head out now.”

Xu Ying nodded, her eyes turning red as she watched her mother leave.

Just as she picked up her spoon, she caught movement at the door.

Two small figures were peeking in.

Both wore patched-up clothes. Their cheeks were hollow, their skin sallow with long-term malnutrition. Eyes full of fear and longing. They looked like two fragile little lambs.

The younger one was smiling faintly, his eyes locked onto the enamel bowl in Xu Ying’s hands.

The older one squatted silently near the door, sneaking glances at the custard, swallowing with hunger.

Xu Ying’s heart clenched.

“Shitou, Huzi,” she called softly, “Come here.”

The two boys hesitated. After exchanging glances, they slowly approached.

In the village, it was believed that giving kids tough names brought them better luck. So the elder was called Shitou (Stone), and the younger Huzi (Tiger).

“Aunty,” Shitou said nervously, pulling Huzi behind him as if bracing for scolding. “If you’re going to scold someone, scold me. My brother’s still small.”

Huzi cowered behind his brother, but hunger overpowered his fear. He stared at the egg custard as drool gathered at the corners of his mouth.

Seeing the two little ones on guard around her made Xu Ying deeply uncomfortable.

She remembered how, in her past life, her two nephews always tried to get close to her. But she had been cold, always pushing them away with harsh words.

Her heart ached. In the apocalypse, she had seen families tear each other apart over a single bite of food.

Now, she understood how precious family truly was.

“Do you two want some?” she asked gently, her almond-shaped eyes soft.

Shitou froze, instantly suspicious.

But Huzi whispered shyly, “I want some.”

Xu Ying scooped a spoonful of custard into her mouth—and immediately frowned.

The taste was a far cry from the dishes she used to make.

“Wait a second,” she said, and hurried into the kitchen. She grabbed the sesame oil and added a few drops to the bowl.

Just then, a mechanical voice rang out:

[Ding ding ding. Food System initiating. Would you like to bind with the system?]

Xu Ying froze. A system?

Why would one suddenly appear?

As if reading her mind, the system explained:

[This system was dormant inside the bracelet. When it sensed danger, it used the last of its spiritual energy to send you back here. Due to the depletion, I entered hibernation and only reawakened thanks to the space’s spiritual energy.]

“Spiritual energy?” Xu Ying asked in surprise. “There’s spiritual energy in that space?”

She’d lived with that space for years, but it had always seemed like a dead object.

Could it really have transformed from the master’s bracelet?

[Read More Here] And what did it mean to absorb spiritual energy?

“What happens if you drain the space’s energy?”

The system’s voice wavered slightly, [The items inside will be temporarily sealed. But don’t worry—once you bind with the system and unlock various delicacies, the space barrier will gradually lift. The more dishes you unlock, the more upgrades your space will get!]

So that’s what the strange light inside the space was.

Xu Ying frowned. “Unlock delicious food? I already know how to cook. There’s no need.”

[Really?] The system seemed to curl into itself.

But before she could argue more, her mind suddenly went blank.

“What the—?! Why can’t I remember anything about the cooking skills I worked so hard for?!”

[Host, please calm down. Your cooking abilities and supplies will be restored once you bind the system. You wouldn’t want to reject your master’s last gift, would you?

Without me, you wouldn't have come back. You wouldn’t have been reunited with your family.]

Xu Ying wanted to argue, but at the mention of her master—and her parents—she bit back her anger.

“Fine. I’ll bind. But can I still keep my master’s bracelet?”

[Once bound, the system will return to its original form.]

“Then do it.”

As soon as she spoke, a flash of light appeared—and an emerald green bracelet reformed on her wrist.

Xu Ying glanced around nervously, but her mother and sister-in-law in the kitchen seemed completely unaware.

She exhaled in relief and quickly dismissed the system, opting not to claim the beginner’s gift pack just yet.

Then, holding the bowl of custard, she walked briskly into the room and waved to the two boys.

“Shitou, Huzi, come try it. Tell me if it’s good.”
