The Lucky Wife of the Era Married a Rough Man With Space

                Chapter 167: Salary is paid

"Xiao Xu, you're absolutely right. Our duck product's reputation isn't strong enough. So, what do you propose to do to make it sell better?" Director Sun, no longer daring to underestimate Xu Ying, asked, his voice tinged with respect. This girl was undeniably clever; it seemed nothing was beyond her capabilities.

Xu Ying, a modest smile playing on her lips, thought of her third uncle. A mischievous glint in her eyes, she confidently put him forward. "Director Sun, if you trust me, I can recommend someone—my third uncle. He's incredibly eloquent and quite shameless, which makes him perfect for sales. If he manages to land a big order for the factory, you can give him a commission. If not, no money changes hands, so you won't lose anything, right?" Director Sun, stroking his hair, was clearly intrigued. A smile spread across his face as he agreed, "Alright, I'd like to see if your  Uncle  is as clever as you."

Secretary Zhang, who had been sweating nervously, finally relaxed. The factory director wasn't angry at all; it seemed the sun had indeed risen from  the west. This "Xiao Xu" truly was remarkable. A young girl speaking to their factory director with such confidence was an astonishing sight. "I'm sure I won't disappoint Director Sun," Xu Ying declared with a triumphant smile.[Read More Here] Her third uncle, she knew, had a certain knack for business; he hadn't achieved what he did in her previous life for nothing. Director Sun, thoroughly pleased, personally escorted Xu Ying out.

Xu Ying left the factory in high spirits, humming a cheerful tune as she clutched her sack of money. Reaching a secluded corner, she swiftly transferred all the cash into her personal space. She was now, undeniably, a "thousand-yuan household."

"Xu Ying!" A voice called from behind. Xu Ying turned to see Dong Wenqiang, his face flushed, a wide, excited grin plastered across his features. "What's wrong?" she asked, maintaining a cautious distance. Dong Wenqiang struck what he clearly believed was a dashing pose, leaning against a tree with one hand, his feet extended, and casually running a hand through his hair. The theatrical moment crumbled in less than a minute. He chuckled, pulling a handful of candies from his pocket. "Xu Ying, please have some wedding candies! I'm getting married!"

"To Gu Funing?" Xu Ying's surprise was evident. This man truly was something else, getting married so suddenly. "Do her parents agree?" she pressed. Dong Wenqiang's face fell. "Gu Funing is already pregnant, what else can we do but get married?" he said with a look of dismay. Observing his expression, Xu Ying understood the family's typical ways. But then, Gu Funing wasn't exactly a saint either, so they were perfectly suited for each other.

Thinking of Chen Yanran, a mischievous smile touched Xu Ying's lips. "Chen Yanran is pregnant too. Counting the days, it should be yours and your brother's, right?" At this, Dong Wenqiang's face contorted. That wretch was pregnant? Who knew if it was his or his brother's! This child, he decided, absolutely could not be kept. As he stood there in a daze, Xu Ying quietly slipped away.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, it was already time for service. Xu Ying quickly donned her work clothes and began her duties. Duck products had become the store's bestsellers recently, mainly due to their delicious flavor and suitability for pairing with drinks. Served with wine and peanuts, they made for a perfect after-work meal at home.

"Master Xiao Xu, do you have any new dishes today?" a customer inquired, their voice filled with anticipation. Xu Ying regularly introduced new dishes, and everyone eagerly awaited her latest culinary creations. Xu Ying's eyes widened with a smile. "Of course there's a new recipe! Today, we have a batch of pork, so we'll definitely have pork dishes for everyone this noon." She had recently unlocked the "all-purpose fried recipes" but had been too preoccupied with  Huo Chen  and her cousin's issue  to try them out. Now, with a moment to spare, she planned to experiment with them.

There were numerous fried dishes to choose from, and Xu Ying selected a few she liked, all for which the restaurant had the necessary ingredients. "Master Xu, what are you going to make?" Liu Guohua asked, running over with curious eyes. "Fried crispy meatballs, fried small yellow croaker, fried chicken steak, fried mushrooms..." Xu Ying listed off seven or eight fried recipes. Liu Guohua's eyes lit up, and he looked at Xu Ying with a pleading expression.

"What are you doing?" Xu Ying asked, a hint of disdain in her voice. Liu Guohua chuckled, lowering himself to please her. "Master Xu, can I help you and see how it's done?" Xu Ying didn't refuse. She had never hidden her cooking skills, even when Zhang Quan was present. How much they learned was entirely up to them. If someone offered their help for free, there was no reason to decline. She nodded and immediately began issuing instructions to Liu Guohua. "Go and cut these lean pork into strips, and slice these chicken breasts thinly. Clean the mushrooms and the small yellow croakers as well."

With Liu Guohua's assistance, the preparation sped up considerably. As soon as he finished washing the ingredients, Xu Ying began pickling them, then coating them in egg wash and flour before starting the frying process. While washing, Liu Guohua keenly observed Xu Ying's every move, her pickled and wrapped ingredients sizzling in the oil. Liu Guohua possessed a natural talent for cooking. After watching Xu Ying fry a few items, he grasped the basic technique. He quickly finished his tasks, washed his hands, and, once clean, approached Xu Ying again.

"Master Xu," he said shamelessly, "I just saw how you fried these. You probably marinated them and then rolled them in eggs and flour, right? Let me fry the mushrooms, please?" Liu Guohua finished, looking at her expectantly. Xu Ying didn't refuse. Fried mushrooms were the simplest of the fried dishes, and as long as she was there, nothing would go wrong. Chef Ge, now at leisure, couldn't be happier that someone was looking after his apprentices. He occasionally glanced at the two of them, and when they weren't looking, he secretly snatched a piece of fried food from the box, savoring it with gusto.

Fried mushrooms, a common food item, typically use mushrooms as the main ingredient.[Read More Here] However, in this era, people only knew how to stew or stir-fry mushrooms, never to deep-fry them. Xu Ying, for one, adored this dish. Freshly fried mushrooms were fragrant, delightfully crispy, and bursting with flavor. But they had a downside: they had to be eaten while hot, or they would lose their crispiness.

"Wash the mushrooms, blanch them briefly in boiling water, take them out, and drain the water," Xu Ying instructed, and Liu Guohua listened humbly. "The mushrooms must be washed and squeezed dry. Remember to squeeze them dry, otherwise they won't be crispy when fried." Liu Guohua obediently followed her directions. Next, they tore the mushrooms into strips and seasoned them with salt, chili powder, and pepper. In a large bowl, Xu Ying whisked eggs with chopsticks, added flour and a suitable amount of water to create an egg batter, and poured in the mushrooms.

The pot was heated on high, oil added until it reached 60% readiness. Each mushroom strip was coated in egg batter and deep-fried until golden brown. They were then removed, drained of oil, and placed on a flat plate, drizzled with sesame oil. A sprinkle of cumin powder completed the dish, promising a fragrant and delicious taste.

As soon as the fried food was ready, the restaurant filled with the enticing aroma of meat and fried oil. Some eager customers couldn't wait, rushing to the ordering area to ask Sun Lifang, "What did little Master Xu make today? Why does it smell so delicious! It smells like fried pork belly!" Sun Lifang smiled, informing them, "Today, we have not only deep-fried crispy pork, but also deep-fried yellow croaker, fried mushrooms..."

The restaurant buzzed with excitement as the new dishes were announced, promising a feast for the senses.
