I Don’t Mind You Being Ugly and Blind
Chapter 87
The landslide's chaos slowly yielded to the methodical efforts of the rescue team and Jiang Ci's dispatched personnel. Several victims lay in critical condition, their bodies battered, their minds lost to unconsciousness. Yet, a silent prayer of thanks was offered by all the people present as no lives had been lost.
Among the injured, Chu Mengyun lay with a shattered leg, her knee brutally damaged by a rock and her face marred by jagged cuts. She awoke only as night descended with the hazy aftermath of surgery still clinging to her. Nearby, in the neighboring wards, she knew others from the crew lay wounded. She turned to her assistant. Su Yue, she inquired, was she here?
"I heard from the crew that she wasn't injured," the assistant replied, placing a lunchbox beside Chu Mengyun. "Among the group, only Su Yue and her assistant were lucky enough to escape unscathed. Everyone else was injured, some still in comas.[Read More Here]
" The assistant felt a surge of relief, recalling how a brief detour to retrieve Chu Mengyun's coat had spared him the same fate.
"It's not her luck," hatred simmered in Chu Mengyun's eyes, bubbling to the surface. "If it wasn't for Su Yue's selfishness, her unwillingness to pull me along and instead letting her assistant kick me away, I wouldn't be in this situation now. My leg is broken, and my face is scarred." The doctor had warned her about the severity of her leg injury, the lingering uncertainty of its recovery.
"What? Sister Chu Yun, do you mean that Su Yue kicked you away to escape?" The assistant's voice was filled with shock. Su Yue, in his mind, wasn't a malicious person. "In such a critical situation, wouldn't that have caused your death?"
Chu Mengyun remembered the moment vividly. She was wearing high heels, her footing treacherous on the muddy path, while Su Yue had donned non-slip shoe covers. In the chaos of the landslide, she had instinctively grabbed Su Yue, seeking help, hoping to run together. But then, Su Yue's assistant, with a brutal kick, had sent her sprawling. She had been swallowed by the falling rocks and earth. The overwhelming darkness, the biting cold, the terrifying sensation of suffocation – it was an experience she would carry to her grave.
A cold sneer twisted Chu Mengyun's lips. "Is today's news being reported online?" she asked.
"It has been reported, and it's trending for quiet sometime," the assistant confirmed. Director Guan and Xu Shen's involvement in the accident had drawn immense public attention.
"Where's my cell phone? Bring it here." A fierce glint ignited in Chu Mengyun's eyes. She was so severely injured, while Su Yue had emerged unscathed. It was utterly unfair. If not for Su Yue's selfishness, her fear of being dragged down, and that brutal kick, Chu Mengyun resolved, she would expose Su Yue's ugly truth to the world.
After carefully composing a message on her phone, she handed it to her assistant. "You press send for me." The assistant, long accustomed to managing Chu Mengyun's social media, hesitated, but ultimately, she posted the message.
Meanwhile, in City B, on a different film set, Jiang Xuan had just finished a scene and was having her makeup touched up.
"Have you read the news about a landslide near Director Guan's set ?" Her agent handed her a phone. "It's reported that many actors have been injured. I wonder when filming will resume. No one could have predicted such a natural disaster."
Jiang Xuan's eyes softened with sympathy. "How is Su Yue? Is she seriously injured?"
"Her name isn't on the list of wounded, so she's probably fine."
"Really?" Jiang Xuan exhaled a sigh of relief. "That's good. She and I are in the end is family, so her safety puts my mind at ease. By the way, if the villagers there suffered losses, will their lives be affected? How about I donate a sum of money to them?"
The agent knew Jiang Xuan's kind and considerate nature, her charitable spirit, and her dedication to public welfare. Such a positive image perfectly aligned with her persona. "It's not necessary for the time being; the money should be used practically." It was a blessing that Jiang Xuan was the wife of the Jiang family heir so she never had to worry about money.
"Huh?" The agent scrolled through the webpage, noticing a sudden shift in the trending news. "Your sister-in-law is truly gifted. It seems she's destined to live on the hot search." The agent felt a pang of regret. She had genuinely liked Su Yue and had even considered signing her. Su Yue was, after all, the first person whose face consistently dominated search trends without doing anything.
"What's wrong?" As Jiang Xuan asked the makeup artist to apply her lip color, her voice soft.
"You know Chu Mengyun, the rising young actress who also took on the second female lead in Director Guan's play? She just posted a message, accusing Su Yue of disregarding her safety during the landslide. She claims Su Yue pulled away from her and let her assistant kick her, causing her to be crushed and injure her leg and face."
The agent, seasoned in the entertainment industry, immediately recognized Chu Mengyun's intent: not only to discredit Su Yue but also to leverage the situation for sympathy, gaining fans, and even turning Su Yue's supporters into her own.
"Su Yue, she wouldn't..." Jiang Xuan began to defend Su Yue, but then hesitated. Su Yue's character was a bit like that, wasn't it? It was indeed possible for her to act selfishly. "Is everyone scolding her online now?" she asked, with a heavy heart.
"They're scolding her, yes. Chu Mengyun has a loyal fanbase, and they'll naturally defend her. Plus, there are a lot of paid commenters." However, the agent reasoned, Su Yue was a member of the Jiang family. Even if her entertainment career suffered, she wouldn't truly lose anything.
On the internet, netizens had been captivated by the news of Director Guan's crew and the landslide, placing it in the top three trending topics. Now, with Chu Mengyun's accusation, their worry for the injured actors morphed into a torrent of anger towards Su Yue.
"Whoa, that's too vicious! Not pulling someone, and even kicking them down? Isn't this Su Yue beautiful? Why is her heart so cruel?"
"In such a crisis, it's good enough to take care of yourself. Who's so great they'd think about saving others?"
"Is the person upstairs blind? The other party didn't save people, and even let their assistant kick them!"
"So black-hearted! It's clear that Su Yue disliked Chu Mengyun early on, and used this opportunity to harm her."
"Hold on, Mengyun! Don't pay attention to such cruel and vicious people. I feel sorry for you. Heal quickly!"
"God, I've always liked Su Yue's face; she's as beautiful as a fairy. How can she be more poisonous than a witch? Meng Yun is so pitiful to meet such a co-actor."
"I hope Mengyun recovers quickly and we can look forward to your new play."
The online vitriol grew exponentially. While some comments defended Su Yue, they were swiftly drowned out by Chu Mengyun's fans and paid trolls.

Back at the hospital, Su Yue was being carried out of the bathroom by Jiang Ci. She had protested, knowing his waist and hand injuries meant he shouldn't exert himself, but Jiang Ci had simply scooped her up, offering no chance for refusal.
Jiang Ci gently placed her on the hospital bed, his eyes still lingering on her flushed face, her cheeks are now alluringly puffy. Even her eyes seemed to gleam with moisture, as if dewed by the steamy air.
"Are your feet still felt soft?" Jiang Ci's voice, low and still hoarse, filled the quiet room.
At his words, Su Yue's face burned anew. In the bathroom, he had insisted on examining her legs. Despite her wearing trousers, he'd made her remove her shoes and pull up her pants. Then, with his bandaged hand, he had held her foot, inspecting it, pinching it, even placing it on his firm, sculpted thigh. Now, remembering that scene, her round, lovely toes unconsciously curled. She buried her face in the quilt, refusing to acknowledge him.
Jiang Ci's cold expression softened with obvious contentment. He quirked his lips. "It's time for my medicine, Su Yue. Feed me."
Su Yue feigned death.
"My hand really hurts. It seems I can't take the medicine myself," Jiang Ci stated, moving slowly to the bedside and sitting down.
Su Yue sat up, glaring at him with her watery, dark eyes. Why hadn't his hands hurt when he was playing with her feet just moments ago? Why hadn't they hurt when he carried her? "I'll go get you some water."
She stood, a peculiar sensation still lingering on the soles of her feet. After pouring the medicine into her palm and holding a cup in her other hand, Su Yue walked towards Jiang Ci. "Open your mouth, and I'll feed you."
Jiang Ci was remarkably cooperative. As Su Yue's fingertips, holding the medicine, neared him, he consciously parted his lips, taking both the medicine and her soft, pink fingertips into his mouth, his tongue gently rolling over them.
"Water," he said slowly.
With slightly damp fingertips, Su Yue pursed her lips and offered Jiang Ci the appropriately warm water, watching him swallow the medicine.
"Isn't it bitter?" Su Yue couldn't help but ask, frowning at the thought of the medicine sticking in his throat.
"It is Bitter."
Jiang Ci's thin lips, wet from the water, looked exceptionally alluring, especially when they curved into a slight hook, momentarily stunning Su Yue. "Than, give me something sweet." He reached out, snatching the cup from Su Yue's hand, placing it aside casually, then pulled her into his arms again. As his thin lips descended onto hers. Only one thought was echoing in his mind , so soft.
Su Yue tasted the faint bitterness of the medicine first , immediately followed by Jiang Ci's clean breath.
Due to his fever, Jiang Ci's breath was hot, washing over Su Yue's face and causing it to redden once more. She felt as though she, too, was developing a fever.
Outside, the heavy rain continued, drenching the entire town. But inside the ward, felt warm as a spring.
She didn't know how long it had been when Sheng Yan opened the door and entered. She froze, witnessing Jiang Ci pressing Su Yue against the bed, kissing her with fierce, profound intensity. Sheng Yan was momentarily stunned. In everyone's eyes, President Jiang was always so cold, so distant. Yet now, this emotional, eager President Jiang seemed like a completely different person to her .
When Su Yue spotted Sheng Yan, she quickly pushed against Jiang Ci. "Someone' here ..." Her voice was a muffled protest. She felt a desperate urge to bite him. Wasn't he embarrassed?
Jiang Ci pulled back slightly, his dark eyes bright and deep. "What's the matter?" His voice had grown a little hoarse.
Sheng Yan had knocked, assuming she'd be heard, but she hadn't anticipated walking in on her boss and Su Yue in such a compromising position. However, Sheng Yan, always composed and serious, quickly regained her composure despite her embarrassment. She reported to Jiang Ci: "Mr. Jiang, there are a lot of negative messages about Madam on the internet." Her gaze flickered to Jiang Ci's face, then quickly darted away, noticing the unexpected warmth in his usually cold eyes.
Su Yue, initially mortified, now understood Sheng Yan's words. "What bad message?" she asked.
"Chu Mengyun posted a message, accusing Madam that you didn't save her and let Sheng Tian kick her away." Sheng Yan had been present at the time. She knew the truth: during the landslide, Chu Mengyun had grabbed Su Yue, and it was Sheng Tian who had kicked her away. Su Yue had never mentioned it. If Sheng Tian hadn't acted, Sheng Yan herself would have. Their mission was to protect Su Yue's safety. "Mr. Jiang, Madam, I can clarify it for you."
Jiang Ci offered no immediate response, turning his head to look at Su Yue.
"Do I have a personal account?" Su Yue asked.
"Yes," Sheng Yan confirmed, recalling Mao Yuanyuan's reminder that every artist should have a personal account for fan interaction.
Su Yue asked Sheng Yan for her account details, then logged in and posted a message directly: At the juncture of crisis, I consider myself not a fairy. I don't have an overly kind heart.[Read More Here]
I just want to save myself, and I have no obligation to save anyone. During the landslide, you suddenly pulled me and were kicked away. That's the only truth!
Sheng Yan watched Su Yue's message go live, her eyes now widening in astonishment. Su Yue's delicate and beautiful face usually conveyed the image of a wronged, vulnerable girl. Sheng Yan hadn't expected such directness and strength from her . Was Su Yue not worried about damaging her beautiful image?
"The news has been sent. Go handle public relations and let the paid commenters leave messages," Su Yue stated bluntly. She had been targeted by trolls and criticized heavily when she first debuted, yet she had survived. Now, the online curses didn't bother her much. Chu Mengyun could play her games; Su Yue would simply respond directly. Besides, she was stating the truth. There was no need to hide it. She didn't claim to be kind or a saint. In such a critical situation, self-preservation was paramount. Who would risk their life for another?
"Mr. Jiang?" Sheng Yan looked at Jiang Ci, awaiting his instructions.
"Listen to her," Jiang Ci said, his lips curving into a subtle smile. Su Yue was like a delicate, beautiful kitten. She usually squinted her eyes, allowing herself to be petted and teased. But if pushed, she would become fierce and scratch.
After Sheng Yan left, Su Yue yawned. "I am sleepy," she mumbled. She had been frightened and running around all day, feeling utterly exhausted now.
"Okay," Jiang Ci agreed, pulling back the quilt and allowing her to lie down on the hospital bed. He lay beside her, hugging her tightly. "Do you need me to take care of it further?" he asked lazily.
Su Yue knew he was referring to Chu Mengyun. She turned and with a playful smile on her face she rolled her eyes. "You can take care of it if you want. I'm your wife, and you should vent your anger for me." In the past, she had to handle her own problems and frustrations. Now, knowing someone cared enough to do it for her, she felt a profound happiness.
She reached out, her fingertips gently poking the scar on Jiang Ci's left cheek. The color had returned to normal. Su Yue whispered softly, "Aao, good night."
