The Lucky Wife of the Era Married a Rough Man With Space

                      Chapter 206: Apologize

“Where is the person named Xu Ying in your Xujia Village? I’m the director of Qingshan Commune, and I’m here to see that girl.”
The voice boomed like a gong, belonging to a man with a fleshy, rough face and a stocky build—surprisingly stout for an era marked by scarcity. One couldn’t help but wonder just how deep his corruption ran.

“Xu Ying’s house is just over there. I’ll take you,” Liu Yuefen offered eagerly, her eyes gleaming with vindictive delight. Seeing the anger on the man’s face as he shouted Xu Ying’s name, she knew trouble was coming. A commune director, no less! Xu Ying would surely suffer this time—she wouldn’t walk away from it unscathed. Liu Yuefen still resented the fact that the recruitment favored her daughter-in-law instead of her own daughter.

“And who are you?” Lao Zhang—the so-called director of Qingshan Commune—turned and glared at her.

Liu Yuefen’s knees trembled, but she forced herself to speak boldly. “I’m Xu Ying’s aunt. That girl’s been disrespectful, lazy, and greedy since she was little.[Read More Here] Director, what did she do to provoke you? You must teach her a lesson this time.”

A faint smirk tugged at the corners of Lao Zhang’s lips. This woman knows how to read the room, he thought. Puffing out his chest, he strutted forward, his arrogance practically leaking from his pores. “Lead the way then. I’m still a busy man.”

Liu Yuefen, already savoring Xu Ying’s looming misfortune, scurried ahead eagerly. In her mind, once the director dealt with Xu Ying, she would quickly lay claim to the workshop.
“Sister-in-law, come quickly! Your Yingying has really messed up this time—come out and apologize to the director!” she hollered, her voice shrill and theatrical. “This girl is becoming more and more unruly! Daring to provoke anyone and everyone—it’s practically suicidal! She acts however she wants, and if something happens, won’t it bring disaster to our entire village?”

The villagers, who had initially gathered just to watch the commotion, now exchanged worried glances. The thought that their entire village could suffer made their hearts pound with unease.

“Yuefen, what do you mean by that? What exactly has Xu Ying done that could bring harm to us all?” someone finally asked.

Liu Yuefen puffed out her chest self-importantly, pointing to the man beside her as if unveiling a deity. “This is the director of Qingshan Commune! Don’t you know? Qingshan Commune has always led our county in economic development! And now Xu Ying has offended the director—what do you think that means? Offending a big official like him? What if he gets angry and it affects all of us?”

Lao Zhang was momentarily stunned by her gushing praise. When did I become so powerful? But seeing the fear and unease on the villagers’ faces, he rubbed his nose smugly, enjoying the reverence.

“Dad, have you found her yet?” A familiar voice cut through the crowd—Zhang Hao, riding up on his bicycle.

Liu Yuefen’s eyes widened. This was the director’s son? He looked to be about the same age as her own kids. Is he married? she wondered. If my Qingqing could marry into this family, wouldn’t our status skyrocket?

Her eyes lit up with excitement. "You're the commune director’s son, right?" she asked brightly. “Don’t worry, I’ll call Xu Ying out for you right now. You can deal with her properly!”

Just then, a voice rang out—sharp, cold, and furious. “Who exactly is my cousin planning to ‘deal with’?”

Xu Ying’s mother stepped into view, her gaze blazing.

But Liu Yuefen, now buoyed by the powerful officials behind her, showed no sign of backing down. “What, are you trying to protect your daughter?” she snapped. “She’s the one in the wrong! Are you saying the whole village should suffer because of her?”

Lao Zhang, arms crossed, spoke indifferently, his eyes narrowing. “Where is your daughter? Let her come out. She beat up my son. We demand an explanation.”

His words caused a stir among the villagers. They turned to look at Zhang Hao with disbelief. That tall, burly man? And Xu Ying—barely over 1.6 meters tall and thin—she beat him up? Could it be that Zhang Hao had the bones of a weakling?

Under the scrutiny of the villagers, Zhang Hao shifted awkwardly, the smugness draining from his face.

“My daughter isn’t home!” Xu’s mother snapped, her voice ringing with unshakable confidence. She knew her daughter well—Xu Ying would never hit anyone without good reason.

Still fuming, Liu Yuefen turned to Father Xu with a sense of urgency. “When is Yingying coming back? We  even have a phone here why don't you call her . Hurry and call her workplace! Have her come back and apologize right away!”

Father Xu’s face was like stone. He didn’t believe for a second that his daughter would start a fight unprovoked. “I will call her. But as for the beating, I’ll ask her myself. If she was truly in the wrong, I’ll make sure she apologizes to you, Director.”

Lao Zhang’s face fell. “You mean to suggest my son provoked your daughter?”

Zhang Hao’s expression darkened. Since childhood, he had relied on his family’s influence. No one dared to touch him. Even if they were bullied, the villagers always swallowed their anger in silence, afraid of repercussions.

Lao Zhang sneered at Father Xu. “A mere captain dares to defy me? I’d like to see what power you think you have.[Read More Here]

Liu Yuefen, standing off to the side, crossed her arms and glared at Father Xu as well.

Suddenly, a crisp voice rang out, slicing cleanly through the rising tension.
“Not a  very  powerful one ,” Xu Ying said as she walked toward the crowd, “but at least my father does good work—unlike some who abuse their positions to suppress the people, lining their own pockets instead of creating wealth for the village.”

All eyes turned to her, stunned.

Xu Ying’s gaze swept toward Aunt Xu and Xu Jingjing. “The restaurant doesn’t need much food anymore, and starting today, we will no longer accept any goods from Qingshan Commune.”

“Okay!” “Got it!” Aunt Xu and Xu Jingjing responded without hesitation.

Deputy Director Zhang’s face turned stormy. “And what gives you the authority to make that decision? What does the restaurant’s food procurement have to do with you?”

Xu Ying looked him dead in the eye. “Because I sourced that business myself. I signed the contract. So yes, I do have the right. Isn’t that right, Deputy Director Zhang?”

“Deputy Director?”
Gasps echoed through the villagers. So he wasn’t even the actual director?! And he had still dared to come here swinging his power like a hammer?

Deputy Director Zhang flushed dark red,  with his face similar to  the color of pig’s liver. He pointed at Xu Ying, his voice trembling with rage. “You… you’re using public matters for personal revenge!”

Xu Ying let out a cold laugh. “Yesterday, this man tried to set me up. So I beat him up. And yet, I didn’t go to the Public Security Bureau to report him for being a hooligan. Now he has the gall to come to my house and demand an apology? In your dreams.”

She turned to her family. “Sister-in-law, make sure the workshop knows—don’t hire anyone from Qingshan Commune from now on. If anyone asks, just say I had a falling out with Deputy Director Zhang.”

Deputy Director Zhang nearly vomited blood from sheer fury. Since ancient times, those who ruled without the people's support were doomed to fall. He might have flaunted his power, but in truth, he was only a deputy—and after today’s humiliation, everyone in Qingshan Commune would likely despise him to the core.

“You… you girl! I was just joking! How can you twist things like this?” he shouted, his voice cracking with anger. This was the first time in his life he’d been rebuked so harshly by a young woman. His pride burned, but he had no choice but to swallow the shame. As his opponent was not an ordinary village girl.
