"A Decade of Silent Love—Exposed by the Bullet Screens"

                                         Chapter 17

Shi Guoqiang's gaze, sharp with suspicion, bore into Shi Qingyin's sole . She began to explain, her voice measured. "My sister has been fighting for a divorce for three years, and now, suddenly, she says she doesn't want one. It's just too abnormal." She paused, then added conspiratorially, "Plus, Qin Heye forced my sister..."

"It's not forced!" Shi Guoqiang blurted out, interrupting her. [Read More Here] "Qin Heye didn't force Aning." He coughed, a blush creeping up his neck. "It was Aning who forced Heye."

Shi Qingyin's eyes widened slightly. A girl forcing a boy? Was that something to be proud of? It only confirmed her belief that Shi Ning had no self-respect. Clenching her fists subtly, she shifted her explanation. "That's not the main point, Uncle. It's just that after the incident, my sister acted completely out of character. I was worried she might be pretending to be good, to hurt you, and then herself. That's why I lied."

Shi Guoqiang's brow furrowed. He wasn't entirely convinced. "Is that truly the case? Or was it to drive a wedge between Aning and me?"

Shi Qingyin's face contorted with surprise, then shock, and finally, a profound hurt. After a moment, tears welled in her eyes, and she dramatically wiped them away. "I didn't expect that Uncle would think of me like this."

"Yinyin..." Shi Guoqiang started, a wave of guilt washing over him.

She cut him off with a strained, forced smile. "It's okay, Uncle, don't be embarrassed. I understand. I must not be doing well enough in my daily life, or I've done something wrong for you to think this way of me."

Her words twisted the knife of guilt in Shi Guoqiang's heart. "I just asked it casually" he mumbled. But then he remembered Shi Ning's words, about the misunderstandings Shi Qingyin had created between them. His guilt vanished, replaced by a stern resolve. "Lying between Aning and me is wrong," he declared. "Your pocket money will be stopped for three months. Do you have any objection about this?"

Shi Guoqiang had given Shi Qingyin a diamond card with a monthly limit of five million, for her to spend as she pleased. Now, it was being cut off? Just because she isn't his real daughter, he's taking her money! Shi Qingyin fumed internally, yet her smile remained plastered on. "The money was originally yours, Uncle. I have no objection if you take it back."

She handed him a peeled orange. "Uncle, have a good rest. I'll go home now. Mother will bring you dinner in a while."

Shi Guoqiang noticed her bleeding palm. "How did your hand get hurt?"

Shi Qingyin smiled, rising. "It's nothing, I hurt it accidentally. I'll head home."

But as she walked, Shi Guoqiang saw a slight limp. He looked down, noticing an injury on her calf. He grabbed her arm, his voice stern. "Why is your leg injured? Who bullied you?"

Shi Qingyin shook her head, insisting she'd simply fallen. Shi Guoqiang pressed her, demanding answers. Finally, with feigned reluctance, she admitted, "My sister pushed me out of the car, that's how I got hurt."

"Is it really  Aning?" Shi Guoqiang was genuinely surprised. Shi Ning had a fiery temper, but she wasn't known to lash out without reason.

Shi Qingyin nodded, then quickly smiled. "My sister must have been in a bad mood, Uncle. Don't blame her." She continued, almost as an afterthought, "Uncle, please pay more attention to my sister. She's acting so abnormal today. I'm afraid what happened three years ago will repeat itself, which is why I felt I had to lie to you." With that, Shi Qingyin departed.

Shi Guoqiang remained in the ward, still holding the apple Shi Ning had peeled, unwilling to eat it. He was lost in thought, remembering the Qin family's marriage proposal three years ago. Shi Ning had initially resisted fiercely for half a month, then suddenly, to his surprise, agreed to the marriage, acting unusually docile. But just two days later, she'd escaped by climbing out a third-story window in the dead of night. He knew Shi Ning's pattern: if she couldn't cause a scene, she'd pretend to be good, only to drop a bigger bombshell.[Read More Here]

A fresh wave of guilt washed over him. He looked up at Butler Zhao. "Did I misunderstand Yinyin? Should I not have stopped her pocket money?"

Butler Zhao, ever pragmatic, replied, "Master, when you found cockroaches at home, there wasn't just one. The second young lady's treatment in the Shi family has surpassed that of the eldest young lady." He gritted his teeth. "And... since the second young lady and her family arrived, your relationship with the eldest young lady has only gotten worse. Besides, that money is yours to begin with. You can distribute it freely. Why do you still feel guilty?"

Shi Guoqiang considered his words. Butler Zhao was right, but Shi Guoqiang valued family bonds deeply. "Yinyin's card will be suspended for three months," he decided. "But at the end of the year, the dividends for my second brother's family will be doubled." He sighed, his worry returning to Shi Ning. "Just pay more attention to Aning recently, Old Zhao. I'm genuinely afraid she'll pretend not to divorce to pacify me, then spring another big surprise."

At the Qin family mansion, the master bedroom door remained closed.

From within, Shi Ning's faint sobs and pleas for mercy could be heard. "Ah... Ah... it hurts~"

"Qin Heye! Be gentle!... Woo woo..."

"Let me go, no more, really no more..."

The internal barrage, for those privy to it, went wild:
